SEO and Website Content, Revisited

An image I created for an SEO article I wrote in 2011.

Earlier this month, I wrote a post called “The Rise and Fall of SEO” that argued that SEO as we know it may be a dying animal.

Of course, that argument is based on a subjective premise; SEO “as we know it” is the operative phrase here. To put it simply, as long as there are search engines (like Google and Bing), there will always be search engine optimization (SEO). So, the nature of what SEO IS may not change, but the nature of how SEO is performed WILL.

And I can say what I’ve said about SEO because I’ve spent years studying the topic. Am I an authority on the subject? Well, since 2006, I’ve been paid to write website content that’s search engine optimized. And, even more to the point, since 2009, I’ve been paid to write online content that explains to readers what SEO is, and how to use it.

To underline my expertise with search engine optimization, I thought I’d collect here a basic overview of some of the pieces I’ve written on SEO. Spanning a period of roughly three years, taken together, these articles will explain what SEO is, how it’s changing, WHY it’s changing, and what it’s likely to become. And, of course, why SEO remains essential to online marketers and website managers (as well as website content writers like myself).

Writers and online marketers agree: Interesting content is the key to effective SEO. Search engine optimization based on keyword density, or worse, “keyword stuffing,” are outdated.
